Our Goals

Social Support

BOSFAM provides a safe space for women of all ages, ethnicities, nationalities, and education to share and build community in post-war Bosnia. During the war, many of the women lost homes, livelihoods, family members, and friends. As members of the BOSFAM community, these women can come together to weave, drink coffee, and share their experiences and strength with one another.

Economic Independence

The women of BOSFAM occupy their hands and minds with the creation of woven handicrafts. Many of the women produce a variety of traditional, handwoven carpets, as well as clothing items, such as hats, socks, sweaters, and scarves. The sale of these products through our handicraft shop provides much-needed income for women who have become the bread winners of their family after the war.

Memorial & Advocacy

The women of BOSFAM want to ensure that the atrocities committed during the war, especially during the 1995 Srebrenica genocide, are never forgotten. Through monthly protests, thousands of embroidered cushions, and the creation and exhibition of over a dozen memorial quilts, the women of BOSFAM use their skills to create unique items of commemoration for those lost in the pursuit of justice.
